Wood Badge is an exciting, action-packed adult leadership program covered over the course of two weekends. Designed for councils to provide members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their Scouting positions and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.
The Wood Badge course centers upon the concepts of servant leadership and leaving a legacy. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on “how to.” The skills come alive during the week as the patrol completes a patrol project based upon what they have learned. (Scroll Down For More Info)
What Are Tickets?
Have you heard of “The Ticket” and wondered what it is? The ticket is a group of five goals you set for yourself to do after course, to improve your unit. You learn more about this on the course.
What’s The Purpose of Wood Badge?
The purpose of Wood Badge is to develop skilled leaders who can strengthen Scouting units in achieving the mission of Scouting America.
When we accomplish the mission of Scouting, we do it in the units. Therefore, the short form of the purpose is, the purpose of Wood Badge is to strengthen units.
Although the course is different today, what Baden-Powell said in 1919 still applies:
One of the purposes of Wood Badge training is to get Scouters to think about the practice of Scouting, to meet together, to exchange experiences, and to live together in the spirit of the Scout Oath.
Who Should Register?
Participation in Wood Badge is open to all registered adult Leaders of Scouting America who have completed the prerequisites
- Are a currently registered adult leader in Scouting America and active in a unit, district or council.
- Are at least 21 years old. (Assistant Scoutmasters may be 18.)
- Have completed “This is Scouting”, basic leader training, and the outdoor skills training programs appropriate for your Scouting position.
- Submit a completed BSA Health & Medical Record form signed by a physician.
- Submit a Wood Badge Training application with a deposit to reserve your place.
We will host our annual course at:
Weekend #1 – Maumee Scout Reservation (directions) – September 5-6, 2025
Weekend #2 – Location TBA – September 27-28, 2025

When Is Our Course?
Our course is split between two weekends. Both weekends start at 8am sharp which means you should already be at camp and ready to go at 8am.
