Northern Tier National High Adventure Bases The Northern Tier National High Adventure Bases provide the finest in wilderness canoe expeditions. We offer fully outfitted trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota, Quetico Provincial Park and the White Otter-Turtle River Wilderness in southern Ontario Canada, and in Atikaki Provincial Park in Manitoba Canada. We are one of the three national high adventure programs (which include Philmont Scout Ranch and the Florida Sea Base) and have been providing wilderness adventure to Scouts, Explorers, and Venturers for 85 years! Carl Boyles, Director of Program for Northern Tier High Adventure Bases will be holding a Northern Tier Night at the Hoosier Trails Council Office on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 7:30 pm. Pizza and Soda will be provided! Come and hear the Northern Tier story. For Crews that are interested in attending Northern Tier in the future this is a great opportunity to get that much needed information directly from the Director of Program. Northern Tier High Adventure Bases Seasonal Staff Opportunities The Northern Tier National High Adventure Bases are looking for seasonal staff members. We need young men and women 18 years of age or older to serve as trail staff and base staff for the 2008 summer season. Trail staff accompanies groups from across the United States on canoe expeditions from 6 to 10 days each. These trips are in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota and the Quetico Provincial Park in southern Ontario. Base staff positions include jobs related to the trading post, food outfitting, historical reenactment programs, equipment outfitting, maintenance, business operations, and food service. Working at the Northern Tier is the experience of a lifetime. Boy Scout Requirements Change The National Youth Protection Committee recommended additions to Boy Scout rank requirements that were approved and became effective January 1, 2008. These changes will help us advance the importance of Youth Protection training beyond the initial Boy Scout joining requirements, and keep youth informed and actively engaged in understanding the key elements of personal safety and protection. Tenderfoot Rank - Revised requirement 9: Explain the importance of the buddy system as it relates to your personal safety on outings and in your neighborhood. Describe what a bully is and how you should respond to one. Second Class Rank - New requirement 8b: Explain the three R’s of personal safety and protection. First Class Rank - New requirement 12: Describe the three things you should avoid doing related to use of the Internet. Describe a cyber bully and how you should respond to one.
