The Leave No Trace teaching trail at Camp Ernst is now fully ready for use.  This is a series of ten stations that illustrate the seven principles of Leave No Trace, as well as several environmental impacts that exist at camp.

The trail would be a good outing for Cub Scouts and younger Boy Scouts to introduce the Leave No Trace guidelines in an outdoor scouting activity.  At each station  the user can simply review LNT principles or participate in a teaching activity.  Great teaching ideas can be obtained at the LNT website, www.lnt.org prior to your visit.  Older Scouts can lead an activity and  qualify for the LNT Awareness Award.  Requirements can be found in the activities section of Boy Scouting at www.scouting.org.

The trail begins at the first marker near the old dining hall and "Field Notes" guidebooks and maps are located in the LNT box in the dining hall.  Modest map reading skill and route finding are all that is needed.  As always a camp use permit and tour permit should be filed with the Scout office for both youth and adult safety, ie plan ahead and prepare.  Need more info?  Contact Paul Cronen at 812-265-6896 or c_cronen@yahoo.com
